Get Nervous is the fourth studio album by American rock singer Pat Benatar, released in October 1982. Get Nervous was Pat Benatar's fourth straight amazing rock and roll record album released in the early 80s. With every album she released, Pat Benatar just kept becoming a bigger and bigger star. MTV love her, she looked great on film, great on video, and of course, she just sang her heart out breaking all of ours. The album's lead single "Shadows of the Night," was one of her greatest releases of all time. It earned her another Grammy award for Best Female Rock performance. There were so many great songs on this album including the second track "Looking For A Stranger," which is also one of our favorites. And everyone loved "Anxiety (Get Nervous)" the third track on the album and "Little Too Late," which opened up side two.

Despite coming off one of her biggest hit albums a year before, the new look and sound was embraced by the public and landed Benatar at least three top 40 hits. Chief among them was the noir hit "Shadows of the Night", bolstered by it's fog shrouded flight themed nostalgia video. The song's expansive sonic palette was typical of Get Nervous' new wave inspired sound with big synthesizer washes on top of soaring guitars. There was still room up front for Neil Giraldo's explosive guitar, but it's impact was now softened by Peter Coleman's increasingly electronic production. It was not as dramatic a transition as 4 would be for Foreigner, but was just as smooth.

Not all of Get Nervous was forward inspired. Other tracks like "Looking For A Stranger" hinted to '50s rockabilly while songs like "I Want Out" and "Little Too Late" related more to the harder rock style of Precious Time from a year before. Throughout this period of transition, Benatar maintained her reputation for feminine fury - only now encased in a slicker more modern pop shell.

"In interviews, Pat Benatar made it clear that she had no desire to be stereotyped as a hard rocker -- often adding that she preferred new wave's melodic keyboards over hard rock and metal's crunching guitars. Indeed, Get Nervous was the most melodic album she'd done since In the Heat of the Night. This isn't to say that Get Nervous was a return to new wave-ish leanings; in fact, songs like "Anxiety (Get Nervous)," "The Victim," and "Silent Partners" are intense, forceful jewels that rock aggressively. But at the same time, the album's pop elements and strong emphasis on melody leave no doubt that the last thing on Benatar's mind was recording another Crimes of Passion." (Alex Henderson, AMG)
